Medicare Part D Coverage Gap
These income guidelines will change year to year. Starting in January 1, 2014 Medicare D co-pays are paid until you have used $2,840 worth of prescription drugs. At that time you have reached the coverage gap or "Doughnut Hole." Before you reach the "Doughnut hole," in 2014 you will pay 47.5% of the price on brand-named drugs and 72%% of the price of generic drugs when you buy them at the pharmacy or order them by mail. The amount you pay will count toward getting you out of the "doughnut hole." Catastrophic coverage starts once you have paid $4,550. For more information read your copy of Medicare and You available online at http://www.medicare.gov/ or stop by the McDonough County YMCA Senior Center.
